Zahharova Responds to Pashinyan's Statement on Coup in Armenia
The words of Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan regarding alleged calls from Russia for a coup in the country have no basis. Moscow has never even allowed a hint of such a thing. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, during a press briefing.
"The claims of the Prime Minister of Armenia that you mentioned have no basis. Russian officials have never allowed even a hint of calls for the overthrow of legally elected authorities, wherever that may be," said the diplomat.
According to Zakharova, the Russian side applies this approach "both to the current authorities of Yerevan and to the former authorities, and indeed to any sovereign state."
"A logical question arises: do those who are currently in power in Yerevan adhere to this logic in relation to other countries, or is it related to their internal political processes? It seems to me that it would be good to reflect on this topic; we remember the recent history, what happened a few years ago. Russian officials have never even allowed a hint regarding calls for the overthrow of legally elected authorities. And I will repeat once again: can the current authorities of Armenia boast of the same approach toward the former leadership of the RA?" concluded the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
