Record Cold in China: Birds Frozen in Lakes

Edita

In one of China's western provinces, Xinjiang, temperatures have plummeted to minus 52.3 degrees Celsius, resulting in birds freezing in lakes. This marks the lowest temperature recorded in the past 64 years. Reuters reports that in the city of Tuohong, located in Fujian province, the temperature dropped to minus 51.5 degrees, a record last seen on January 21, 1960.

According to China's Ministry of Transport, 43 road segments have been closed in Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang due to adverse weather conditions. The National Meteorological Service has warned that extreme cold will persist until February 22. Cold weather is also expected in northeastern China and central provinces such as Hubei and Hunan.
