Ursula von der Leyen Nominated for Re-Election as President of the European Commission
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has officially been nominated for re-election to her position for a second term. European media outlets have reported this news.
After months of silence, the former German minister announced her intentions on Monday following a CDU party meeting in Berlin, according to French newspaper Le Figaro.
The 65-year-old politician has been nominated by Germany's Christian Democratic Union (CDU). The party leader, Friedrich Merz, stated that the CDU has "unanimously selected Ursula von der Leyen" to remain in her position.
Accepting her nomination, von der Leyen commented, "The world is now completely different than it was five years ago." It is noteworthy that Ursula von der Leyen took up the position of President of the European Commission five years ago.
