Video: Unprecedented Amount of Weapons and Ammunition Discovered

The Ministry of Internal Affairs is focused on the detection and confiscation of illegally held weapons and ammunition. According to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, those who voluntarily surrender illegally held weapons and ammunition are exempt from criminal liability. This circumstance is also utilized by law enforcement as they conduct explanatory work among the population.

In recent days, we present a selection of various types of weapons and ammunition voluntarily surrendered to the police's territorial subdivisions.

The police departments under the Yerevan Director of Police have registered cases of voluntary surrender of illegally held weapons and their discovery.

At the police linear department of Zvartnots Airport, a report was received regarding a passenger who was found to possess a pistol. An operational group discovered a pistol and three 5.6 mm caliber cartridges in the man's bag.

A case of voluntary surrender of illegally held weapons was recorded at the Kanaker-Zeytun precinct. A citizen reported having left a submachine gun near the cemetery adjacent to Fanarjian Street. The submachine gun was found.

A citizen who called the Mashtots precinct left an AK-74 type submachine gun on Silikian Street. Another citizen called the Arabkir precinct to report leaving a submachine gun along the road leading to the Hrazdan gorge, while a citizen who contacted the Shengavit department left another submachine gun near the Alashkert stadium.

Police officers from the Erebuni precinct also discovered a submachine gun in Nubarashen following a citizen's call. A citizen who contacted the Zvartnots linear department left a submachine gun and military ammunition near the airport, and another citizen reported leaving a pistol near the metro depot to the protection department of the Yerevan Metro. A citizen contacted the Malatya precinct to report leaving a pistol on Sebastia Street.

The criminal investigation officers from the Erebuni precinct received operational information on February 6 that a 56-year-old resident of Sari Tagh was keeping illegal weapons and ammunition at home. Based on the initiated criminal proceedings, on February 13, a search was conducted in that house by court order. Various calibers of 125 cartridges, an AKS 74 type submachine gun with a magazine, a double-barrel shotgun, a signal pistol, a switchblade knife, two grenades, and 48 cartridges for the shotgun were discovered. The 56-year-old citizen was arrested. An investigation is ongoing.

Police from the Kotayk precinct conducted a search on February 15, based on a court decision, in the house and auxiliary structures of a 33-year-old resident of Aramus village. An unregistered submachine gun and a Makarov type pistol with six cartridges in the magazine were found. On the same day, a search was also conducted in the house of a 49-year-old resident of Abovyan city, where an air pistol was discovered. Both the 33-year-old and 49-year-old men were arrested.

Cases of voluntarily surrendering illegally held weapons have been registered in the police regional departments and subordinate precincts. A citizen called the operational management center of the Ararat province, reporting that weapons and ammunition were left at the cemetery in Darakert village. An operational group from the Masis precinct discovered a large number of submachine guns, hunting rifles, grenades, and military ammunition at the scene. A citizen called the Kumayri precinct to report leaving military ammunition on Gharibjanian Street.

Cases of surrendering submachine guns and military ammunition were also recorded in the Yeghegnadzor precinct. In the Jermuk precinct, surrender of a hunting rifle, submachine gun, grenades, and military ammunition was reported, while in the Chambarak precinct, hunting rifles, grenades, detonators, and military ammunition were surrendered. The Ashtarak precinct recorded a surrender of a hunting rifle, submachine gun, and military ammunition. Two cases of voluntarily surrendering submachine guns and military ammunition were also reported in the Goris precinct. The Talin and Aparan precincts received surrenders of a hunting rifle, submachine gun, grenades, and military ammunition.

In the Aragats precinct, a case of voluntarily surrendering a pistol, grenades, and military ammunition was reported. Thanks to the explanatory efforts of the police in Vagarshapat, a large amount of weapons and ammunition, including submachine guns, firearms, and grenades, was left near one of the restaurants.

Submachine guns, grenades, and military ammunition were also surrendered to the Amassia precinct. Due to the explanatory work of the police in Armavir, a citizen reported that a large quantity of weapons and ammunition was left near the “Jajur Auto Repair” area. A significant amount of voluntarily surrendered weapons and ammunition was also recorded in the Ararat regional department, including submachine guns, machine guns, grenades, and military ammunition. A similar incident involving a large volume of surrendered weapons and ammunition occurred in the Kotayk precinct, including submachine guns, pistols, grenades, and military supplies.

The police's daily efforts to detect and confiscate illegally held weapons and ammunition continue.
