Video: Wrestlers Returning from the European Championship Welcomed at Zvartnots
At Zvartnots International Airport, seven-time European champion Artur Aleksanyan, three-time champion Malkhas Amoyan, and bronze medalist Manvel Khachatryan were welcomed with applause and laurel crowns.
In a conversation with reporters, Artur Aleksanyan discussed the final match, where Russian representative Magomed Mur'tazaliyev managed to score two points. "I knew he would attack right from the first minute, I was prepared, they just didn't expect that move," said the Armenian wrestler, adding, "Every championship has its place, we suffer and train for every championship; every championship has its price." He emphasized that becoming a European champion is not easy. "I feel that year by year everyone is mainly preparing against me, it becomes increasingly difficult, but thank God, I succeed," noted Aleksanyan.
Upcoming are the Olympic Games, after which it will be clear whether he will prepare for his eighth European championship or not. Malkhas Amoyan also admitted that his third championship came with significant difficulty. "There’s a good saying: the first one is hard, maintaining it is even harder. But thanks to my coaches, I was able to hold my matches correctly and achieve victory," the athlete stated.
Reflecting on his third encounter with Turkish competitor Yunus Bashar, Amoyan assured that he enters the mat with the same aim against all opponents: victory. "I will do everything to return from the Olympic Games with a gold medal," the wrestler promised.
It is noteworthy that the European Championship was held in Bucharest, where the Armenian wrestling team secured third place in the team standings.
