In 2023, Turkish Citizens Granted Refugee Status in Armenia
In 2023, a total of 8,761 individuals were granted residence status in Armenia, including 3,658 citizens from CIS countries and 266 from EU member states. This information was reported by the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
Among those granted status, 5,073 received temporary status, 3,274 permanent, and 414 special status. The majority of those who obtained status were citizens of Russia and India, with 3,350 and 2,035 individuals respectively. Of the Russians, 2,137 obtained permanent residence, while only 41 residents from India received the same status.
In the second half of 2023, asylum was sought by citizens from various countries, totaling 370 individuals, of which 193 (from 14 countries and one person of unknown nationality) were granted refugee status. Among those receiving status, 94 were from Ukraine, 28 from Haiti, 17 from Iraq, 16 from Syria, 11 from Iran, 7 from Turkey, and 6 from Yemen. Age-wise, the predominant group were individuals aged 35 to 64 years.
The majority of asylum seekers came from Iraq (109), Ukraine (91), Iran (57), Egypt (42), Russia (13), and Turkey (9). During the same period, a decision was made to revoke refugee status for 35 individuals, while 98 applications for asylum were either suspended or shortened for 187 individuals.
