VIDEO: 'If there had been the internet 100 years ago, perhaps it would have been possible to avoid genocide' - Sukiasyan

Mariam Z.

Khachatur Sukiasyan, a member of the ruling Civil Contract party in the National Assembly, stated in his speech that transformations are occurring in the world in economic, military, and positional aspects. 'What we have had in our history can be blamed on the governments of all times, but at the same time, we must understand when it started: 100 years ago, 200 years ago, or why we failed. A new era has come. Perhaps if we had the internet 100 years ago, it might have been possible that we would not have genocide, because at that time, parties were not organized. There are very few nations in the world that have such a shameful history, where they can be genocided while having several political parties and still be unable to organize, resist, and fight back. And today, we do not know what we want,' he said.

According to Sukiasyan, it is essential to realize that times bring new mindsets and new ideas to be competitive and strong. 'Indeed, the times have changed; there are different challenges and different tools of power. Every day we loudly blame others, we are all to blame, our grandparents are to blame, and the grandparents of our grandparents are also to blame for not giving us a strong state and territories. If we do not change, if we do not move forward with a new mindset, if we do not think about having a budget 5-10 times larger and move forward with that, we will always have problems,' he stated.

He noted that today Armenia is different compared to the time of previous authorities and the current opposition. 'At least one can say: we could not do it; we were not a complete authority; it was difficult for us to do the same things you are doing; at that time, we were not that mature,' he said.
