Investigative Committee Addresses Assault on Park Rangers by Fishermen at Lake Sevan

The Investigative Committee has responded to information circulating regarding an incident on December 19, 2023, where a group obstructed the professional activities of employees of the ‘Sevan National Park’ through violence and committed acts of hooliganism. According to spokesman Gor Abrahamyan, only one of the suspects is currently in custody, which contradicts the claims made.

“Criminal proceedings have been initiated against five individuals in this case, of which four have been remanded in custody. One individual has been subject to a measure prohibiting their absence,” Abrahamyan stated on his Facebook page.

He added, “Integrity requires that before releasing information, necessary verifications are made. At any rate, one of the golden rules of fact-checking is precisely this. Perhaps in that case, the same integrity would prevent undeserved and unfounded accusations against the relevant authorities based on inaccurate information.”

Notably, Daniel Ioannisyan, a project coordinator for the ‘Informed Citizens’ NGO, had posted a message and video earlier today stating, “Do you know why the fishing fee at Lake Sevan is not being paid (today, Nikol Pashinyan asked Hakob Simidian this)? Because among those who attacked the Sevan National Park’s boat and assaulted employees, only one is currently in custody,” he wrote.
