Community Ready to Cover Burial Expenses for Explosion Victims

On February 5, an explosion in Erebuni damaged 34 houses, with 3 completely destroyed and 3 partially. The remaining houses sustained some material damage. Immediately following the incident, the relevant services of the Yerevan municipality were engaged in the process.

The municipality has stated, “The community is ready to cover the burial expenses for the citizens who lost their lives in the explosion, with the consent of their relatives. A needs assessment has also been carried out, and psychological support has been offered, which the citizens declined.” They emphasized that while the Yerevan municipality does not have an explicit obligation, it is prepared to stand by the victims, recognizing the necessity of its participation.

It is crucial to obtain conclusions from professional bodies, such as the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the rescue service, for further support, to clarify how the assistance will be provided and which organization will handle it. According to the preliminary, yet to be verified data from the Investigative Committee, the explosion occurred in House 23 on 27th street, Nor Aresh, due to a gas leak and the igniting of a torch by a resident.
