Dozens of Homes Damaged in Erebuni Community Explosion, Deputy Mayor

On February 5, an explosion on 34th Street in the Nor Aresh neighborhood of the Erebuni administrative district in Yerevan caused damage to 34 homes. This was stated by the Deputy Mayor of Yerevan, Sargis Madatyan, in an interview with Sputnik Armenia.

"Three houses were completely collapsed, and three others were partially destroyed. The remaining homes sustained damage to doors and windows," he said.

Madatyan noted that the Yerevan municipality has already conducted a needs assessment. Compensation issues will only be discussed after investigating the causes of the explosion and obtaining conclusions.

He informed that all citizens whose houses were ruined or damaged have spent the night at relatives' homes. There has been no need for temporary shelters.

Regarding the burial expenses for the two deceased individuals, the deputy mayor stated that the Yerevan municipality is ready to cover the costs after obtaining the consent of the relatives.

Recall that on February 5, around 11:30, an explosion occurred on 34th Street in the Nor Aresh neighborhood of Yerevan, resulting in the complete collapse of houses number 43 and 27A. Several other homes also suffered structural damage.

Rescue teams recovered Roza Nazaryan (born 1938) and Hrant Sargsyan (born 1994) from the rubble. Medical professionals assessed the woman's health condition as satisfactory, while the man's condition was deemed serious.

Also recovered from the debris were the remains of a married couple. According to media reports, the deceased individuals are 37-year-old Haik Soghomonyan and 54-year-old Gayane Yeghoyan.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident under the article "Violation of fire safety rules or requirements, which negligently caused a death or other serious consequences."
