Approximately 120 People Hospitalized in Tokyo Due to Snowfall
Due to heavy snowfall, approximately 120 people have been hospitalized in Tokyo, according to Kyodo News, citing the city’s fire department, which also manages emergency services. Most injuries have resulted from falls on the ice. The affected individuals range in age from 4 to 92.
Currently, 2,400 households remain without electricity in Saitama, Kanagawa, Yamanashi, and Nagano prefectures. As a result of the snowfall, 31 flights have been canceled at Tokyo's Haneda Airport. Several sections of expressways are still partially closed, and there are disruptions and delays in the operations of electric trains.
Starting from Monday noon, the Kanto region, which includes Tokyo and its neighboring prefectures, has been experiencing heavy snowfall according to local standards. Traffic on many of Tokyo's expressways has been halted, and the famous Rainbow Bridge has also been closed. There have been interruptions in the service of electric trains, several intercity express trains have been canceled, and delays on westbound trains have exceeded 45 minutes.
