When the EU Naval Mission in the Red Sea Could Start
Josep Borrell, the head of the European Union's foreign policy service, has indicated a possible start date for the EU naval mission in the Red Sea. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
According to him, the mission could commence on February 17. Among the mission's objectives are escorting ships, as well as intercepting drones and missiles from Houthi forces.
Previously, the Financial Times reported that France, Germany, and Italy have urged other EU countries to consider participating in the mission in the Red Sea and to contribute to ensuring maritime security. However, they have suggested utilizing the already existing mission in the Middle East.
The statement from the three countries noted that the mission could be launched under Article 44 of the EU treaty, which allows a group of countries to undertake an assignment on behalf of the other member states.
