Russian Embassy Addresses Desecration of Leningrad Children Monument
The Russian Embassy in Armenia has expressed deep outrage over a cynical provocation near the monument dedicated to the children of Leningrad. It is difficult to assess this event in any other way than as a blatant disrespect towards the memory of the victims of this tragedy and the heroes who defended the city.
According to a statement from the embassy, “The creator of the video was not trampling on wreaths laid in connection with the 80th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade, but rather on the respect and gratitude of the Armenian people, which these wreaths symbolize. The level of immorality exhibited by those who publicly express blatant contempt not only for these tragic events and their victims but also for their own ancestors is incomprehensible.”
According to researchers, more than 100,000 Armenians fought among the diverse defenders of Leningrad, with 4,000 of them being volunteers, ten of whom were awarded titles of Heroes of the Soviet Union.
“We are pleased that our assessment is supported by the Armenian public, as evidenced by the mass discontent on social networks regarding this grotesque act. The embassy hopes that these actions will receive appropriate legal qualification from the Armenian authorities, and that those involved in this provocation will be held accountable,” the Russian diplomatic representation stated.
It is worth recalling that on January 27, a citizen named Samvel Shirinyan tore and trampled Russian flag ribbons near the monument dedicated to the children of besieged Leningrad, toppled wreaths, and posted a video with offensive comments about Russia on the social network TikTok. The head of the Russian House in Armenia has addressed the prosecutor general regarding this incident.
