I Do Not Exclude that We Will Transfer Information on Newly Mined Areas to Azerbaijan: Foreign Minister
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, does not rule out the possibility of transferring information about newly mined areas to Azerbaijan, as efforts to continue confidence-building measures are underway. He made this statement during a press conference summarizing the year 2023.
“For this purpose, according to my information, the relevant Armenian authorities are working on restoring possible new data regarding mines. I do not rule out that, with constructive approaches from both sides and steps to strengthen trust, we may provide new information to the Azerbaijani side,” the minister said.
He noted that this action should be carried out through international partners to ensure that there is no doubt about the credibility of the data. The Armenian Foreign Minister recalled that Armenia has handed over maps of mined areas to Azerbaijan twice.
“Strangely, we continuously heard complaints from the Azerbaijani side that these maps do not effectively and accurately reflect the location of the mines,” he added. The minister reminded that the mining of these same areas often began in the early 1990s, precisely by Azerbaijan.
