VIDEO: Half of Crimea Left Without Electricity Due to Accident at Balaklava Power Plant

An accident involving equipment failure at the Balaklava Power Plant has left part of the Crimean Peninsula without electricity, as reported by the region's leader, Sergey Aksyonov. He stated that repair work has already begun.

According to Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev, there was improper operation of gas equipment at the plant, which led to the shutdown of two power units. As a result, residents of Balaklava, Kazachya Bay, Kamishovaya Bay, Fiolent, and the central part of Sevastopol are left without electricity.

The Balaklava Power Plant provides 45% of Crimea's energy consumption. The first two units of the plant were commissioned in October 2018, and the second phase began in March of the following year. The power plant has a capacity of 470 MW.

Previously, Ukrainian military forces have attempted to target the Balaklava Power Plant with missiles and drones on multiple occasions.
