Prices of Nearby Houses are Dropping, I Have a House Next Door, I Have a Personal Interest: Pashinyan
Construction of traffic junctions in the center of Yerevan, particularly near the circus and the "Homeland" cinema, cannot yield positive, significant results. This was stated by Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan during a government meeting.
“Our studies clearly show that besides the fact that we will keep these important junctions closed for a considerable time while we carry out some construction, the result we will achieve from this construction does not provide the positive, significant outcomes that would allow us to say there is reasoning behind it,” he emphasized.
According to him, the solutions being proposed will lead to significant transformations of those beautiful squares, notably the "Homeland" square will entirely become a high-speed highway, which is simply incorrect in an urban environment.
“We are currently focusing on bypass roads, through which we can solve all the main problems. We are approaching the construction of new junctions in the city much more cautiously,” the mayor noted.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan agreed with Avinyan. “These highways are also driving down the prices of nearby houses, and since I have a house next door, I have a personal interest,” he joked.
The Prime Minister pointed out that there has been a large shopping center near the "Homeland" cinema since Soviet times that is not operational, and there is a huge and beautiful area there. He added that this area does not serve the city or the economy in any way, and it would be worth considering how to create parking there.
