Lavrov on the 'Zangezur Corridor'

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the issue of the 'Zangezur Corridor' was never discussed within the framework of the agreements reached between Russian President Vladimir Putin, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. This comment came in response to Pashinyan's statements regarding the so-called corridor.

“In recent days, the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan have touched upon issues related to the Armenian-Azerbaijani settlement in their public comments. The topic of establishing a connection between the main part of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan has been discussed. Pashinyan states that Armenia is firmly against the 'Zangezur Corridor.' However, the issue of the 'Zangezur Corridor' has never been mentioned in the agreements reached by Putin, Aliyev, and Pashinyan,” noted Lavrov.

The Russian Foreign Minister emphasized that the trilateral agreement signed on November 9, 2020, which halted the war, states that all economic and transport links will be unblocked, with Armenia guaranteeing the safety of transport communications between Azerbaijan's western regions and Nakhchivan in both directions. The control of these transport communications is carried out by the bodies of the Border Guard Service of the Federal Security Service of Russia.
