EU Warns Azerbaijan of Severe Consequences for Violating Armenia's Territorial Integrity
The European Union has conveyed clear messages to Azerbaijan, stating that any violation of Armenia's territorial integrity by the country is unacceptable and will have severe consequences for EU-Azerbaijan relations.
This was stated by EU foreign affairs spokesperson Peter Stano in response to a question from an Armenpress correspondent in Brussels, regarding the recent statements by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, which contain territorial claims and threats towards Armenia.
“We have been in close contact with the leadership of Armenia and Azerbaijan, tirelessly reiterating our support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries and the resolution of issues exclusively through peaceful means. Our channels of communication remain open. The EU is utilizing all possible means to communicate clear messages to Azerbaijan that any violation of Armenia's territorial integrity is unacceptable and will have serious consequences for our relations. We remain steadfast in this position. President of the European Council Charles Michel, High Representative Josep Borrell, and EU Special Representative Toivo Klaar continue their engagement for the establishment of a stable and lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” Stano said.
