Iran Demands Immediate Clarifications from Pakistan

Iran is demanding that Pakistan provide immediate clarifications regarding the missile strikes carried out by Islamabad against Iran’s southeastern Sistan and Baluchistan province the day before. This was reported by the Tasnim agency, with information provided by RIA Novosti.

“Iran requires immediate explanations from the Pakistani authorities regarding this incident (referring to the strikes on Sistan and Baluchistan),” the agency cited an informed source.

According to Reuters, citing sources within Pakistan's military intelligence, the Pakistan Air Force entered Iranian airspace while targeting locations in Iran. The number of aircraft involved in the operation has not been disclosed.

Simultaneously, the Iranian Fars News agency reported, citing Alireza Marhamati, the governor's deputy for security and law enforcement in Sistan and Baluchistan province, that seven people were killed by the missile strikes in a border locality, none of whom were Iranian citizens.

Earlier reports indicated that Pakistan had retaliated against Iran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Iran's elite military unit, announced on January 16 that it had targeted the main military base of the terrorist group “Jaish al-Adl,” located in the Pakistani province of Baluchistan, bordering Iran. Pakistan strongly condemned Iran's attack, and on January 17 recalled its ambassador from Iran, stating that the Iranian ambassador could also not continue his diplomatic mission in Islamabad for the time being.
