Citizens No Longer Required to Present Proof of Mandatory Insurance to Police

When a citizen without a mandatory insurance contract is fined by the Patrol Service, according to current law, they must pay a fine of 100,000 drams. In addition to this fine, there is also an encouraging provision, according to which a citizen is given the opportunity to pay 25% of the fine, which amounts to 25,000 drams, if they sign an insurance contract and present it to law enforcement agencies within 24 hours of the violation report.

This was presented to the National Assembly in the second reading by Edward Aghajanyan, a member of the 'Civil Contract' faction. “According to the proposed amendment, the citizen will no longer be required to physically present the mentioned receipt to the Patrol Service, as this information has been available on a corresponding online platform since the moment of signing the insurance contract, which is also accessible to the Patrol Service,” said Aghajanyan, adding that the adoption of the project will alleviate the administrative burden on the Patrol Service, while citizens will be freed from unnecessary bureaucratic hassles.

Addressing the project, the adjacent reporter Armen Khachatryan stated, “The citizen will no longer be forced to present proof of having a mandatory insurance contract to the police.”
