VIDEO: Internal Armed Conflict in Ecuador - What is the Situation

Disorders and robberies are occurring in Ecuador. According to the latest reports, at least 10 people have been killed during the unrest, and the number of fatalities is likely to rise. In five prisons, criminals have taken hostage around 140 staff members.

The local police report that 12 participants in the unrest have been arrested, with 10 suspected of involvement in terrorist activities. Officially, 22 groups have been declared targets by the military, and they have been ordered to be neutralized. Military equipment has been brought to the city center.

According to local media, the uprising of criminal groups began with the seizure of a television channel. Following this, after Ecuador's president signed a decree acknowledging the existence of an internal armed conflict in the country, the armed individuals began attacking police and soldiers.
