Mass Protest Action in Poland

A mass protest has commenced in Poland's capital, Warsaw, following the arrest of former Interior Minister Mariusz Kamiński and his deputy Maciej Wąsik. Hundreds of people are marching into the city center, waving flags and banners and chanting slogans, demanding the release of the former officials.

It should be noted that the Polish police detained former Interior Minister Mariusz Kamiński and his deputy Maciej Wąsik at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw during a ceremony for the appointment of advisors to the country's leader, Andrzej Duda. Kamiński and Wąsik were found guilty of abuse of power in connection with events dating back to 2007. President Duda granted them a pardon in 2015. However, the current authorities in Poland insist that the head of state did not have the right to do so.
