Increase in Acute Respiratory Diseases in Armenia
In Armenia, there has been an increase in acute respiratory diseases over the past week, rising 1.1 times compared to the previous week. This was announced at a press conference by Romela Abovyan, head of the Infectious and Non-communicable Diseases Epidemiology Department at the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia.
According to her, the increase in morbidity is characteristic of the season. The season for acute respiratory infections and influenza began on October 1 and will end in late May.
“As of January 4, 582 patients with acute respiratory diseases have been hospitalized in the republic's hospitals, 95% of whom are children aged 0-18. A total of 237 patients were hospitalized due to pneumonia, 62% of whom are also children aged 0-18. Meanwhile, 78 patients have been hospitalized in the intensive care unit, 95% of whom are again children aged 0-18,” mentioned Abovyan.
She also added that there has been a 1.1 times increase in the demand for primary healthcare services, while the percentage of hospitalizations has decreased. The number of hospitalizations has decreased by 16% compared to the previous week, and the demand for intensive care units has also declined by 8%.
