Houthis Target US Ships in the Red Sea
Several vessels in the southern Red Sea reported ballistic missiles fired toward them by the Houthis from Yemen. This was announced by the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) on its social media platform X. The information was relayed by lenta.ru.
It is clarified that on January 2, the Houthis launched two anti-ship ballistic missiles with Iranian support. There are no reports of damages.
Previously, an American destroyer had intercepted missiles over the Red Sea that were targeting a container ship. Last December, US President Joe Biden's national security advisor, Jake Sullivan, stated that the United States is negotiating with allies to establish a maritime task force to protect vessels passing through the Red Sea in light of recent attacks by Yemeni Houthis on several commercial ships.
