Yerevan's former mayor and member of the "National Progress" faction, Haik Marutyan, made a statement during discussions on the city's budget proposal.

“Since we are on the eve of the New Year, let's talk about New Year expenses. You remember, a few years ago we bought a Christmas tree for 74 million drams. There was so much criticism about it being an unnecessary extravagance, despite the fact that this expense was made before the war, COVID, and the disaster in Artsakh—during happier times. And that Christmas tree still decorates the city. It has been five years already, and it will continue to adorn the city for another five years,” he said.
