Which Countries' Citizens Have Sought Asylum from Armenia: Data
The Statistical Committee of Armenia reports that during the year 2022, the number of individuals seeking asylum from the Republic of Armenia was 950.
The majority of asylum seekers from Armenia came from Ukraine, with 472 individuals, followed by 199 from Iraq and 101 from Iran. Only 18 citizens from the Russian Federation applied for asylum in Armenia. Given the significant presence of Russians and establishments owned by Russians in Armenia, especially in Yerevan, it is surprising that so few have sought asylum.
According to the daily newspaper "Zhoghovurd," alongside these figures, 6,106 foreigners received residency status in Armenia. Quantitative data on the number of individuals arriving in Armenia, applying for asylum, and obtaining residency status are evident; however, there are no statistics available regarding emigration from Armenia since September 19, 2023.
The newspaper also reports that citizens forcibly displaced from Artsakh have sought asylum in the embassies of France, Russia, and other countries in Armenia.
