Negotiations Underway for New Nuclear Power Units in Armenia: Overchuk

Yerevan and Moscow are engaged in negotiations regarding the construction of new nuclear power units in Armenia. This information was announced by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk during the meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between Russia and Armenia, which took place today in Yerevan.

He noted that the peaceful use of nuclear energy is an extremely important topic on the agenda of bilateral relations.

The Russian Deputy Prime Minister expressed gratitude to his Armenian counterparts for selecting a Russian company to extend the operational period of the Metsamor nuclear power plant.

It had previously been reported that the Armenian government is set to sign a $65 million contract with the Russian company Rosatom to extend the operational period of the second power unit of the Armenian nuclear power plant.
