Ukraine Will Undoubtedly Join NATO, Biden Says
Ukraine will undoubtedly join NATO, but the issue of its membership will be discussed after victory in the military operations against Russia. This was stated by U.S. President Joe Biden following talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Biden emphasized that discussions about Ukraine's integration into the alliance are currently inappropriate, as all attention should be focused on the conflict. “Undoubtedly, NATO will be in Ukraine's future. But, as we already said in Vilnius, Ukraine will become a NATO member when all allies agree and conditions are met. Right now, we need to ensure that Ukraine wins the war,” Biden said at a press conference after the meeting.
Ukraine applied for NATO membership in September 2022. After the NATO summit in Vilnius in July, it was decided that the country would join NATO when the necessary conditions are fulfilled.
