This Is Not a Secret Document, It Will Be Public: Pashinyan on Border Delimitation

The protocol for conducting meetings of the border delimitation commission between Armenia and Azerbaijan has been established. The decision was made during the government session today.

The Deputy Minister of Justice Ara Mkrtchyan announced that this officially confirms the work process for the commission on the state border delimitation and border security issues between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the organization and holding of joint working meetings.

"The locations and times for the meetings will be determined by agreement between the heads of the commissions. Meetings will take place alternately in the territories of Armenia and Azerbaijan or at the border or in third countries, as well as in a videoconference format. Suitable conditions will be created for all participants in the country where the meeting is held, and security will be ensured," he stated.

Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan added that this protocol is only intended to resolve technical and organizational issues.

"In the next phase, we will develop another set of rules that will be more substantive and will describe the methodology of what we mean by a map and what we consider a legally significant document. After developing this methodology, we will continue work in the format of discussing specific documents and topographical maps jointly," the Deputy Prime Minister elaborated.

He also noted that the Azerbaijani side will adopt a corresponding decision today.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan declared that for the first time, the border delimitation process is being put on institutional footing. "This is not a secret document; it will be public," he stated.

According to the Prime Minister, a similar decision needs to be approved by the Azerbaijani side as well. Pashinyan emphasized the need to intensify work in this direction and to try to achieve progress. He noted that this way, the work towards delimitation will be as active as possible within the framework of the already published agreements.
