The Only Missing Component is Azerbaijan's Political Will: Mirzoyan

The Armenian government is hopeful that Azerbaijan will return to the negotiating table, as much of the work related to the peace treaty has already been done. This was stated by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during a joint press conference with the Estonian Foreign Minister today.

“Azerbaijan must return to the negotiating table. Significant work has been done regarding the treaty; we need to meet and come to agreements. The majority of the work has been completed. If we return and work through the accepted mechanisms, we can achieve quick results. The only missing component that needs to complete this chain is Azerbaijan's political will, which must either manifest or not manifest,” he said.

Mirzoyan also noted that there have been no changes to the agreements. “At this moment, everything is proceeding according to the agreements. If you have noticed, there were two components: the exchange of prisoners and the component related to the Climate Conference, which officially concluded yesterday. Today we can expect the implementation of the second component. We have no basis to say that the Azerbaijani side will not fulfill the agreement,” Mirzoyan said in response to a question regarding the return of prisoners.

According to the Armenian Foreign Minister, the Armenian government welcomes the EU's decision to expand the civilian monitoring mission at the border with Azerbaijan. “Our government highly appreciates the EU Foreign Ministers' decision to expand the mission. I affirm the position of the Armenian government; we are ready to deepen our relations with the European Union to the extent that the EU considers it possible,” he noted.

It is noteworthy that the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, previously announced that the EU foreign ministers have decided to increase the number of EU observers in Armenia from 138 to 209. According to the European official, the expansion of the mission will serve as a means to enhance stability along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
