Missile Launched from Yemen Hits Norwegian Tanker
A missile launched from Yemen, controlled by Houthi forces, has struck a chemical tanker flying the Norwegian flag. The ship has sustained damage and caught fire. This information was reported on social media by the U.S. Central Command. According to American military sources, there are no casualties.
As reported by Reuters, citing U.S. officials, the tanker named 'Strinda' came under fire approximately 111 kilometers north of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Indian Ocean. After the incident, according to one agency insider, the tanker may have continued moving for several more hours.
The American naval minesweeper 'Mason' responded to the distress call from the tanker and is currently providing assistance to the affected crew.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. Meanwhile, the Iran-aligned 'Ansar Allah' group, known as the Houthis, has previously attacked ships in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, announcing their involvement in military actions against Israel and targeting vessels associated with Israel and its allies.
On Saturday, the Houthis declared that they would attack all ships heading to Israel, regardless of their national affiliation, and warned international shipping companies to avoid cooperation with Israeli ports.
The 'Strinda' vessel was reportedly carrying vegetable oil and biofuel, having departed from Malaysia and en route to Venice, according to data from the monitoring company Kpler. It remains unclear whether the tanker has any connection to Israel.
