Ararat Mirzoyan: "Armenia wants to approach the EU as much as the EU considers possible"
The ratification of the Rome Statute is a manifestation of Armenia's determination to continue its democratization process. This was announced by Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during the Eastern Partnership Ministerial meeting in Brussels. The information was provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He emphasized that the Eastern Partnership has contributed to Armenia's democratic transition process. “Despite all the challenges we have faced in recent years, the democratization process and the implementation of an ambitious reform agenda in Armenia have not stopped for a single moment,” he said.
Mirzoyan added that by joining the International Court of Justice, Armenia has contributed to strengthening the international legal order, while reaffirming its sovereign right to make decisions based on its national interests.
In his speech, the Armenian Foreign Minister welcomed the European Commission's decision to propose to the European Council to start accession negotiations with Moldova and Ukraine and grant candidate status to Georgia. “This decision is commendable not only by the Armenian government but also by the people of Armenia, who also have European aspirations. We believe that these new developments should not lead to a further decline in interest towards the Eastern Partnership, but should serve to transform the commendable progress of this trio into an additional bridge for those partners who have firm intentions and determination to get closer to the European Union,” he said.
Ararat Mirzoyan assured that Armenia is committed to not only continuing on this path but also approaching the European Union as much as the European Union considers possible.
