Request for Re-arrest of Gagik Khachatryan Submitted
A court session has commenced in the anti-corruption court regarding the case of former State Revenue Committee president Gagik Khachatryan and his nephew, former high-ranking official Karen Khachatryan. The prosecutor has submitted a request to re-arrest Gagik Khachatryan, citing that the defendant is not attending court sessions due to health reasons and that the defense is unnecessarily delaying the trial.
Khachatryan appeared in court in a wheelchair. His attorney, Yerem Sargsyan, objected to the request, expressing doubts that the prosecutor's office is exerting pressure on medical institutions to obtain a desirable conclusion regarding Khachatryan's health condition. Sargsyan also noted that Gagik Khachatryan disrupted his post-operative mandatory treatment in Germany in 2019 at the first phone call from the investigator, returning to Armenia and reporting to the prosecuting authority. He further reminded that the Ministry of Health convened a consilium regarding Khachatryan's health condition and concluded that treating his illness in Armenia is not feasible.
