China Launches the World's First Fourth Generation Nuclear Power Plant

China has launched the world's first fourth generation nuclear power plant (NPP). This was announced by the State Administration of Energy of the People's Republic of China.
According to the announcement, the "Shidaowan" facility, equipped with a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor, is located in the eastern Shandong province. It is noted that the nuclear power plant has continuously operated in trial mode for 168 hours and has officially been handed over for commercial operation.
"This indicates that China has reached a leading level on a global scale in the research, development, and application of fourth-generation nuclear energy technologies," states the announcement published on the agency's website.
