Aliyev Discusses Azerbaijan-Nakhchivan Connection

The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, addressed the ninth point of the November 9 statement and the Azerbaijan-Nakhchivan connection at the conference titled "Karabakh: Returning Home After 30 Years - Achievements and Challenges."

"I have repeatedly spoken with Pashinyan, asking why he does not implement the ninth point of the trilateral statement, which clearly states that a direct connection must be established between Azerbaijan's western regions and Nakhchivan. It even specifies who should ensure control and security. That is the Russian Federal Border Service. From a legal standpoint, this is significant, and it is their obligation. We can only state that they are failing their responsibility. I am tired of saying that we do not intend to seize the corridor militarily. We can consider alternative options; we need a connection with Nakhchivan and Turkey. We have agreed with the Iranian side to build a bypass road; yes, it is an expensive option, but construction has already begun, and Armenia is losing a lot. They can construct that 42 km road with their sovereignty using European loans, but for easy accessibility of the Azerbaijan-Nakhchivan connection. I have repeatedly stated that there should be no checks from Azerbaijan to Azerbaijan; this is our legitimate right. And we have discussed at the meeting in Brussels that we can apply the experience of the Russia-Kaliningrad connection," he noted.
