Video: Vahagn Aleksanyan Comments on Recent Events in Alaverdi
At the National Assembly session, Vahagn Aleksanyan, a member of the 'Civil Contract' faction, addressed the events that took place in Alaverdi.
“In Alaverdi, the majority of the City Council, 14 out of 27 members, initiated a session to express no confidence in the mayor. What happened after that is that the mayor, in a brazen and hooligan manner, first closed the doors of the municipality and then the doors of the meeting hall, trying to prevent the session from taking place. They were forced to call the emergency service to open the door. Later, the session was held, the council members were voting already, and suddenly the president of the ‘Living Land’ party, who is not a member of the council, entered the hall and overturned the ballot box's contents. Now, what action should the police take here, or should they not take any action?” Aleksanyan stated.
“The police have fulfilled their duties. The problem is that people think they can resolve issues in this way—by overturning a ballot box they might disregard the majority vote of the council,” the deputy added.
