Severe Storm Expected in India: Schools and Offices Closed

Authorities in Southern India have closed schools and offices, suspended flights, and evacuated residents from coastal areas due to an anticipated severe storm expected to approach the shore within the next 24 hours. This has been reported by Reuters.

The Meteorological Department has indicated that Cyclone Michau will likely reach the shores of Andhra Pradesh early Tuesday morning, with sustained winds of 90-100 km/h and gusts potentially reaching up to 110 km/h.

In Andhra Pradesh, authorities have evacuated around 7,000 people from eight coastal districts and are preparing to evacuate a total of 28,000 people depending on the cyclone's trajectory and strength. In Tamil Nadu, officials have declared a non-working day for four coastal districts and have urged residents to avoid going out unless absolutely necessary.

According to media reports, Chennai Airport suspended operations for two hours on Monday morning due to heavy rainfall, leading to several flight cancellations or rerouting to other cities.
