Erdogan Wants to Remain President of Turkey for Life, Greek Newspaper Reports
The Greek newspaper "Kathimerini" has addressed possible changes to the Turkish constitution and electoral law proposed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. If implemented, these changes would allow Erdogan to run for re-election more than two times. This was reported by Ermenihaber.am.
"Thus, Erdogan wishes to be 'president for life in Turkey,'" the Greek newspaper emphasized, noting that Erdogan's goal with these changes is to no longer rely on cooperation with nationalists, thereby freeing himself from balancing forces.
The article mentioned that Erdogan has already shared with the public his desired changes to the electoral law and constitution, criticizing the requirement to secure 50 + 1 percent of the vote in presidential elections.
Additionally, Erdogan is making efforts to avoid completely severing ties with the West and is hoping for an invitation to meet with U.S. President Joe Biden. According to the newspaper, Erdogan currently enjoys high popularity among the public.
