What Terms Have Hamas and Israel Agreed Upon for a Ceasefire?
The armed wing of the Palestinian Hamas group confirms that a four-day humanitarian ceasefire will begin on Friday morning, as previously announced by the Qatari Foreign Ministry.
“During the four days, 50 hostages will be released,” said a representative of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, according to the BBC. He also confirmed information received from Israel that for each Israeli hostage, three Palestinian prisoners will be released from Israeli jails.
Every day, 200 trucks with aid will enter Gaza, which according to Hamas, is a condition of the ceasefire.
The Palestinian Hamas group’s armed wing mentioned that during these four days, four trucks with fuel and 200 trucks with other humanitarian aid will arrive in the Gaza Strip. Thirteen hostages taken by the Palestinian group will be released on Friday, stated a representative of the Qatari Foreign Ministry, which is a key mediator in negotiations between Israel and Hamas.
According to him, a list of civilians to be released from Gaza has already been received, and the first group will be freed on Friday at 4 PM.
Qatar aims for this deal to lead to a lasting ceasefire. As per the Qatari Foreign Ministry, the criteria for releasing civilians were “purely humanitarian” – to evacuate women and children from the attack zone as quickly as possible.
The Israeli Prime Minister's Office confirmed receipt of the list of hostages to be released tomorrow. The hostages will be handed over to Red Cross officials, and the intention is for the transfer to be as safe as possible for all parties, stated the Qatari diplomat. “We must remember that this is a war zone,” he added.
