ICRC Visits Former Leaders of Artsakh Held in Azerbaijan: Representative
International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) staff regularly visit the former leaders of Artsakh detained by Azerbaijan. This was stated by Draghana Koich, head of the ICRC representative office in Azerbaijan, according to Azerbaijani media.
The representative noted that during these visits, ICRC staff have inquired about the conditions of detention and treatment of detainees. “The ICRC also checks whether conditions have been created for them to establish contact with their families. When we, as the International Committee of the Red Cross, visit them, all information and questions resulting from this activity are transferred and discussed only in a bilateral confidential manner with the relevant authorities. The ICRC regularly discusses these issues with both parties—Azerbaijani and Armenian,” the representative stated.
It should be reminded that the Azerbaijani side has arrested several notable figures, including former Artsakh Prime Minister and philanthropist Ruben Vardanyan, former commander of the Defense Army Levon Mnatsakanyan, former deputy commander of the Defense Army Davit Manukyan, former foreign minister of Artsakh Davit Babayan, speaker of the Artsakh National Assembly Davit Ishkhanian, and former presidents Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, and Araik Harutyunyan.
