Azerbaijan's Parliament Issues Statement Against the U.S. Over Armenian Protection Act
Azerbaijan's Parliament has adopted a statement in response to the Armenian Protection Act passed by the U.S. Senate. The Milli Mejlis established a commission that prepared the statement against the United States. The statement was read by MP Kamila Velieva, as reported by Azerbaijani media.
The statement reads: "The Milli Mejlis firmly rejects the act adopted against Azerbaijan in the U.S. Senate and considers it a serious blow to the relations between the two countries. This is a significant obstacle to efforts to establish peace in the region. The act adopted by the U.S. Senate is a vivid example of double standards and selective approaches. When Armenia expanded its occupation against Azerbaijan, the genocide in Khojaly was perpetrated, along with mass killings of Azerbaijani civilians; the U.S., as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, did nothing to prevent these actions, and on the contrary, adopted the 907 amendment against Azerbaijan. U.S. financial support has helped Armenia occupy Azerbaijani lands. The U.S. has supported the separatist regime created within Azerbaijan. The current actions of the U.S. as a mediator have led to a loss of credibility in Azerbaijan. The U.S. foreign policy has experienced a complete decline in recent years. In this regard, it is particularly noteworthy to mention the policies conducted in the Middle East and Afghanistan.
The Milli Mejlis of Azerbaijan once again declares that Azerbaijan will consistently respond decisively to all negative actions, based on the norms and principles of international law," the statement concludes.
After discussions, the proposal was put to a vote and adopted.
