Margara Customs Checkpoint at Armenia-Turkey Border to be Equipped with Deep Scanning Devices

1.4 billion drams will be allocated for the construction works of the Meghri border checkpoint, as well as for upgrading the new Margara customs checkpoint with x-ray scanning and deep scanning equipment for individuals. This decision was made by the government during its session today.

The rationale behind the decision states that contracts have been signed with the construction company 'Tana Energy Management' and the engineering firm 'Roughton' for the construction of a new border checkpoint in Meghri, valued at €22,194,650.4 and €1,345,500.0 (including VAT).

Currently, payments need to be made to the contractor and engineer for the work already completed, as well as for work to be carried out by the end of 2023.

To organize the customs control process at the Margara customs border crossing point, it is necessary to acquire corresponding technical means—specifically, x-ray scanning and deep scanning equipment for individuals. The acquisition of these devices requires 168,031.4 thousand drams.

Construction work has already commenced. For the implementation of the aforementioned program, the 2023 state budget of Armenia has allocated grant funds amounting to 2,165.4 million drams, of which 1,804.5 million drams are from the World Bank grant and 360.9 million drams are co-financed by Armenia (related to VAT).
