Armenia Responds to Azerbaijan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia has issued a statement in response to the announcement from the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The statement particularly notes:

“The Armenian side, once again reaffirming Armenia's political will to make efforts towards the normalization of relations with Azerbaijan and to establish peace and stability in the South Caucasus, transmitted the sixth revision of its draft agreement on the normalization of relations to the Azerbaijani side on November 21.

It is important to remind that while Armenia was considering the latest proposals from Azerbaijan after receiving them, and was willing to continue negotiations on the draft agreement despite the deepening humanitarian crisis resulting from the severe blockade in Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijan carried out a large-scale military attack against the people of Nagorno-Karabakh on September 19, leading to the forced displacement of the entire Armenian population of the region.

Subsequently, continuing to openly disregard the possibility of returning to the peace process and the efforts of international partners in this direction, the Azerbaijani side did not participate in the meetings held at the leaders' level in Granada within the framework of the European Political Community and then in Brussels, although these five-party and three-party meetings had been previously agreed upon.

The Armenian side has continued its work on the text of the agreement and has deemed it more effective to present them to Azerbaijan precisely during the supposed meetings. Nevertheless, with the aim of bringing the negotiation process to a standstill and thwarting efforts to achieve lasting peace in our region, the Republic of Armenia constructively conveyed its observations regarding the agreement and has, as demonstrated numerous times before, proved its willingness to engage in negotiations once again, guided by the mutual recognition and respect for each other's territorial integrity without ambiguities, and based on the implementation of the border demarcation process on the basis of the Alma-Ata declaration and the most recent legitimate maps of the Soviet era, ensuring complete respect for the sovereignty and jurisdiction of states and the principles of equality and reciprocity for the unblocking of regional infrastructure.

The Armenian side continues to believe that despite all the complexities and challenges, there exists a genuine opportunity for establishing peace between the two countries, which can be realized in the presence of mutual political will. The Armenian side continues to demonstrate such will.

One of the manifestations of this will is Armenia's proposal to hold meetings of delimitation commissions along the state border between the two countries,” the statement reads.

It should be reminded that yesterday the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs invited Armenia to hold a meeting along the state border.
