EU's Efforts to Arm Armenia Encourage New Conflicts in the Region, Says Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Borrell
The accusations made by the EU representative, who has taken no steps to ensure Armenia acts in accordance with international law norms and principles, pose a threat to Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty. This was stated in a declaration by Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to comments from Josep Borrell, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. This information is reported by Azerbaijani media.
“Azerbaijan has legitimately restored its sovereignty within the framework of international law norms and principles. At a time when EU member states are suffering from aggressive separatist trends, the EU's foreign policy department's attempts to incite separatism in our country are a serious source of concern,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized.
It was also noted that the EU's efforts to arm Armenia and thereby obstruct peace and stability in the region through a cunning militarization policy are a promotion of a political agenda leading to new conflicts in the area, for which the EU will bear responsibility.
“In this regard, the programs utilizing the European Peace Facility, which also includes strengthening military capabilities, serve to escalate tensions in the region. Once again, we remind that speaking to Azerbaijan in the language of threats is unacceptable, and any unfriendly actions will not yield positive results but will receive an appropriate response,” the message from Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
