The World Sambo Championship in Armenia Organized at the Highest Level, Says FIAS President Shestakov
Armenia, as the host country, has provided all the conditions necessary for the proper conduct of the sambo competitions. This was stated by the President of the International Federation of Sambo (FIAS), Vasily Shestakov, during a meeting with Armenia's Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Zhanna Andreasyan. The information was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia.
"The World Sambo Championship has been organized at the highest level, for which we are very grateful. We truly appreciate the efforts of the Armenian government, the Ministry of Education and Science, and the Armenian Sambo Federation in this regard. This is a great celebration for both the International Federation of Sambo and the sports community of Armenia. We are happy that the participation of 70 countries is secured in this world championship," said Vasily Shestakov.
The Armenian government has recently adopted a decision to support sambist athletes and their coaches who have shown high results in the national teams by providing monthly nominal pensions (for life) starting next year.
Minister Andreasyan also emphasized that three athletes from Nagorno-Karabakh, forcibly displaced, are competing under the FIAS flag as part of the Refugee Team at the World Championship: David Hovsepyan (58 kg), Arsen Karapetyan (79 kg), and Armen Mnatsakanyan (58 kg, combat sambo).
It is noteworthy that the International Federation of Sambo recently organized a refereeing seminar in Yerevan, and a Business Forum is scheduled to take place today. More than 650 athletes from over 70 countries are participating in the World Sambo Championship. The Armenian national teams are represented in sports sambo, combat sambo, and women's sambo competitions across all weight categories.
