Details of Discussion Between Macron and Pashinyan Revealed
The meeting between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and French President Emmanuel Macron took place at the Élysée Palace. The French president first expressed his condolences to the Prime Minister regarding the death of Christian Ter-Stepanian, Armenia's permanent representative to UNESCO and the Prime Minister's personal representative to the International Organization of La Francophonie.
Emmanuel Macron once again emphasized France's support for Armenia in its further development and in overcoming existing challenges. Nikol Pashinyan thanked him for the warm hospitality and condolences. The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of developing Armenian-French cooperation in all sectors and emphasized the Armenian government's interest in this regard.
The interlocutors discussed issues related to the resolution process of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations. They stressed the importance of the principles outlined in the Quadrilateral Statement of Granada involving the Prime Minister of Armenia, the President of France, the Chancellor of Germany, and the President of the European Council regarding the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Attention was drawn to the humanitarian issues faced by over 100,000 forcibly displaced persons due to Azerbaijan’s ethnic cleansing policies in Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as the steps taken by the Armenian government to address these challenges. The need for support from the international community in resolving existing issues was highlighted.
Discussions also covered the deepening and expansion of Armenian-French cooperation in the economy, infrastructure development, and other fields. Both sides expressed their willingness to continue their efforts in this direction consistently.
Ideas were exchanged regarding regional peace and stability, as well as cooperation between Armenia and the European Union.
