Germany Considers Nagorno-Karabakh Part of Azerbaijan, Says German Foreign Minister

Germany and the European Union are ready to continue supporting Azerbaijan and Armenia in the normalization of their relations, stated German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock during a meeting with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.

“We need peace in the region, which serves the interests of both Azerbaijan and Armenia. Germany and the EU are prepared to assist both countries in normalizing their relations,” said Baerbock.

At the same time, she added that “Germany has always supported Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and considers Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan.”

According to the German high-ranking official, “Azerbaijan is sending very positive signals” in the framework of normalizing relations with Armenia. She noted, however, that the delineation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border is a “rather complex process.”

Baerbock also mentioned that Germany is prepared to assist Azerbaijan in demining and has proposed a relevant project to Baku.

The German Foreign Minister expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the meetings held in Baku.
