Turkey Tightens Regulations for Tourists Renting Accommodations
Turkey has enacted a law requiring homeowners who rent their properties to tourists to obtain special permission. This has been published in the official government release Resmi Gazete.
"You must receive permission before signing a rental agreement for tourist purposes. Additionally, a special sign must be posted near the entrance of the property designated for tourist rentals," the document states.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism will issue the permits, which can also be obtained through the local governor's office. The new requirements do not apply to accommodations rented for more than 100 days.
A fine of 100,000 Turkish Lira (1,418,671.73 AMD) is imposed for each property rented without permission. If illegal rental operations continue after the first fine, penalties could escalate to between 500,000 and 1 million Lira (14,142,243.11 AMD).
