ICRC Provides Assistance to Armenians Remaining in Artsakh

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is providing humanitarian assistance to those who remain in Armenian-populated Artsakh following its transfer to Azerbaijani control. Some of these individuals are in need of help to meet their basic needs.

This was stated by Martin Shoup, director of the ICRC's operations division, in an interview with RIA Novosti. “Today, a small number of people remain in their homes, either because they prefer to stay there or because they cannot leave on their own, possibly due to being elderly or disabled and in need of assistance. Some need medical help, while others require food and water,” Shoup said.

“We are trying to support those in real need, whether it be water, medication, or assistance in order to connect with their families or receive medical transport,” he added.

When asked whether the ICRC is cooperating with Azerbaijani authorities in this regard, he responded that the organization collaborates with all relevant entities to assist all those in need wherever they operate.

Earlier, the ICRC published a video filmed in Nagorno-Karabakh showing ICRC team members visiting inhabited areas to locate those who remained, to address their basic humanitarian needs.
