We have shut off the main water so that neither the 'pensionats' nor the villagers have water: There is no drinking water in Arzakan village
Arzakan village in the Kotayk Province, which provides 50% of Yerevan's water, is currently facing a serious water crisis. AuroraNews received a report indicating the issue.
“Our former village mayor provided our drinking water to the 'pensionats' for money, and these 'pensionats' have no other source of water and use our drinking water for all their internal communications,” said a concerned citizen who reached out to us.
“These 'pensionats' are located above our water distribution point, and they take all the water; as a result, there is no drinking water in the village. This means that we have water for half an hour or an hour in the morning, and if we are lucky, we can take a shower, if not, we can't. Now the villagers have gone and shut off the general water so that neither the 'pensionats' nor even the villagers can have water, so that we can solve this issue,” the resident added.
When asked if the municipal authorities are aware and what solutions they propose, the resident responded, “The municipality and the regional administration have been aware of all this for 2-3 months; they know that the village has a water problem. Each pensionat takes about 4-5 inches of water from a total of 10 inches, and as a result, water does not accumulate in the village. But this is the village from which 1100 liters per second flow to Yerevan, and we have no water. The last option is to shut off Yerevan's water so that it does not come at all.”
AuroraNews contacted Liparit Margaryan, the administrative head of Arzakan village.
In a conversation, Margaryan said, “We have addressed this issue, and from tomorrow morning, residents will have water. The problem is the drying up of sources, and we are now trying to increase the water supply by connecting additional sources to solve the issue.” He also added that they have shut off the water for the 'pensionats' to prevent more water from going there so that we can provide residents with water.
